CAREER PATH

I always wanted to be a teacher growing up. I loved working with children and started my career out babysitting and working as a Daycare teacher. During my high school career I was in the early childhood education program at Grundy County Vocational Center where I spent half of my school day in an early childhood classroom setting. After high school I went to Joliet Junior college where I continued my education in the early childhood education field. While attending JJC I received my associate's degree and transferred to Lewis University where I got my Bachelor's degree in early childhood education. After graduating I worked as a teacher's assistant for 3 years and I now I am a first year teacher as a 1st grade special ed teacher.

1 st Grade Special Education Teacher

My advice for high school CTE students is to really take it all in. The amount of experience I got from being in a CTE program really helped me decide the career path I wanted to pursue. During my field experiences I really learned about what it would be like to be a teacher. . HOW HAS CTE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE/CAREER? During my CTE program I got real hands on experience in the education field. I learned things in my program that I still to this day use in my career as an educator. I learned how to create and implement lesson plans, classroom management skills, and how to run parent teacher conferences.
