Welcome to the Sangamon County Jr. High School Honor Band Concert Sponsored by the Sangamon County Jr. High Schoolmasters ’ Association

Dear Guests:

On behalf of the Sangamon County Schoolmasters, welcome to this event. The Sangamon County Schoolmasters are made up of principal leaders from the area county schools. Participating schools are Athens, Auburn, Chatham Glenwood, Greenview, New Berlin, Pawnee, Pleasant Plains, Riverton, Rochester, Tri - City, and Williamsville. The Schoolmasters are proud of all of the hard work that our students demonstrate. We are appreciative of all of the efforts and support that you give to your child as well as all children! The Schoolmasters Association is able to provide students a variety of opportunities including activities in academics, athletics, music, leadership, and character as a result of your support of this event. Although students are members of opposing schools, they are friendly rivals. Their participation in sports and extra - curricular activities reflects the essence of Interscholastic competition. As a friendly reminder during sporting events, sportsmanship is an expectation, so please let the players play, let the coaches coach, let the officials officiate, and let the spectators be positive.

2023 Honor Band Guest Conductor Mrs. Nuss

Mrs. Nuss began her musical interests and training at the age of 6 when she began studying Piano. At the age of 10, she joined her school ’ s beginning band. Mrs. Nuss enjoyed many activities in school, but eventually decided to pursue music as a career. She earned her Bachelor ’ s degree in Music Educa tion from the University of Illinois, where she per formed in symphonic bands, jazz bands, the March ing Illini, Orange Crush Pep Band, University Saxo phone Quartet, and the University annual musical ’ s pit orchestra. After teaching for two years in North

ern Illinois, Mrs. Nuss moved to Paxton, Illinois where she continued her ca reer as High School director, then later as Jr. High band director and direc tor of the PBL school district ’ s jazz bands. While teaching in Paxton, Mrs. Nuss earned her Master ’ s degree from the University of Illinois. Over the course of her career, Mrs. Nuss has performed in many concert bands, rock bands, jazz bands, and played several different instruments in pit orchestras for musicals. Mrs. Nuss has enjoyed adjudicating many contests including marching band, jazz band, concert band and solo contests throughout Illi nois. She frequently provides clinics for concert bands, jazz bands and marching bands, and has also guest conducted the ILMEA All - District Honor jazz bands and various Junior High Honor bands throughout Central Illinois. Mrs. Nuss retired from PBL schools in 2016. She enjoys time spent with her husband of 35 years, her three grown children, their spouses, two grandchil dren, three horses and her jack Russell terrier Chief.
