Amanda Shumaker

CAREER PATH

I obtained my CNA from this course. I worked at a local nursing home until I finished high school. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Anderson University in 2013 and started working as an RN. I got my first job on an inpatient surgical unit. Since then I have obtained experience in the OR, Labor and Delivery, Vascular Surgery, and Geriatrics. In August 2020, I graduated with my Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner. I accepted a job as a Nurse Practitioner at Community Health Network in Anderson, IN. I start there in March 2021. I am very excited to start this next chapter and owe a huge thanks for this program giving me a strong foundation to my career in healthcare.

Be confident in yourself. Find something that you are passionate about and give 110% of yourself. Make sure that you find something that not only brings what you need financially but something that brings you joy. Make sure you enjoy going to work everyday.

The class that I took in high school built a strong foundation of basic skills needed to serve in healthcare. It gave me an opportunity to develop my communication skills and gain confidence in myself as I interacted with patients. This class helped me realize this was my true passion in life.
